Designer duo Ekta Jaipuria and Ruchira Kandhari presented an elegant,
royal-inspired collection in Mumbai, Friday (22 AUG. 2014.)The show was for their Ekru label, as part of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014.
"We wanted to imbibe the cultural feel in our clothes and as you know the royal family of India would dress very elegantly with very beautiful drapes and textiles and embroidery like, you know, the forte of that time, so we wanted to retain that and get that feel into our collection," explained Kandhari.
The Indian fabric Ikat was extensively used in the collection, along with Chanderi, handloom cotton and silk.
Colors like fuchsia, red, yellow and lime were teamed up with darker tones of bottle green, wine and navy.....
Designers Shruti Sancheti and Pratima Pandey present their latest collections at Lakme Fashion Week
Designer Shruti Sancheti presented her collection, titled "Strands of
Silk," as part of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 in Mumbai on
Thursday (21 AUG. 2014).The collection comprised mostly of bridal trousseau in silk.
Banarasi silk woven with zari, Pochampalli (an intricate Indian design,) as well as raw and cotton silk were part of Sancheti's collection.
Opulent hand embroidery like zardosi, cutwork and resham (silk work) were incorporated in the designs.
Colors like crimson, vermillion, cherry, wine, aubergine, burnt orange, saffron, fuchsia and indigo blue were used in the designer's collection.
Sancheti had voluminous sharara jumpsuits, pleated Anarkalis, palazzos, cropped jackets and blouses.
Followed by Sancheti, designer Pratima Pandey showcased her eco-friendly collection, "Midway Gardens.".....

Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra launched the music for her upcoming film, "Mary Kom," in Mumbai Wednesday (13 AUG. 2014). The movie is a biopic on the Olympic bronze medalist and five-time boxing world champion, starring Chopra in the lead role.
Present at the event was Kom herself, who - along with Chopra and producer of the film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali - officially launched the film's music.
Speaking at the event, Chopra said that she tried her best to do justice to the boxer's personality.
"This film we have completely made on her life, as per her own version, we have made the film for the people.
