Designers Shruti Sancheti and Pratima Pandey present their latest collections at Lakme Fashion Week

Designer Shruti Sancheti presented her collection, titled "Strands of Silk," as part of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 in Mumbai on Thursday (21 AUG. 2014).

The collection comprised mostly of bridal trousseau in silk.

Banarasi silk woven with zari, Pochampalli (an intricate Indian design,) as well as raw and cotton silk were part of Sancheti's collection.

Opulent hand embroidery like zardosi, cutwork and resham (silk work) were incorporated in the designs.

Colors like crimson, vermillion, cherry, wine, aubergine, burnt orange, saffron, fuchsia and indigo blue were used in the designer's collection.

Sancheti had voluminous sharara jumpsuits, pleated Anarkalis, palazzos, cropped jackets and blouses.

Followed by Sancheti, designer Pratima Pandey showcased her eco-friendly collection, "Midway Gardens.".....

Giving importance to only natural fabrics, the collection, she said, was inspired by life in the 1920's, which was an era of empowerment and emancipation for women.

Working with Chanderi silk (a type of Indian silk) and cotton with Madras Checks for basic simple layered silhouettes, the ensembles were splashed with floral embroidery.

Shades of blue, amethyst, green and red were used for the kurtas, flared dresses and trousers.

"There is a time in life when you want to bring in the best of who you are and I felt in this collection I wanted to bring in that point in life where you have that realization that everything is beautiful around you and I am very philosophical so I like to have a collection which revolves around that," said Pandey.
